The role of a Care Support Worker offers a lot of variety and can be perfect for people who like the idea of being out and about. Working as a Care Assistant means that you would be visiting people in their homes on an agreed schedule, helping to carry out a care package that has been developed by the service user and the Care Manager. What does a Care Support Worker do?

Working as a Care Assistant means that no two days are really the same, some may be challenging and some may be really enjoyable. You may find that your role means that you’re required to provide support in a wide variety of ways, though the following are the main activities you are likely to do as a Care Assistant;

  • Having a chat with a client, learning about their needs and interests
  • Preparing meals for clients
  • Helping with personal care like washing, using the toilet and dressing
  • Supporting clients in taking medication
  • Helping clients to make shopping lists and sometimes shopping for them
  • Being attentive to changes in needs and condition, and reporting

Our interviews are informal and friendly, we’ll use this time to find out a bit more about your values and whether the role is a good fit for you.

If you’ve impressed us in your interview, we’ll invite you to start work with us. Don’t worry if you don’t have any experience in care, we’ll provide training to teach you everything you need to know to work as a Care Support Worker. After training, you’ll shadow more experienced carers until you feel confident to make visits on your own.
